Police have charged a 17-year-old driver with impaired operation after his vehicle left the road and struck a tree, resulting in life-threatening injuries for a passenger.

Just before 1 a.m. Nov. 1, emergency services were called to the collision on Dominion Road between Rose Avenue and Kraft Road.
A white 2022 BMW X3 had left the roadway and struck a tree, according to police. There were three occupants in the BMW including the male driver.

An 18-year-old woman from Niagara Falls was ejected from the BMW due to the impact, police said. She was taken to an out-of-region hospital with what is believed to be life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver and a 19-year-old male passenger from Niagara Falls were transported to local hospitals to be treated for what is believed to be minor injuries.
Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police collision reconstruction unit have been assigned to the investigation, with assistance from the forensic services unit.
The driver, a 17-year-old male from Niagara Falls, has been arrested and charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mgs.

Dominion Road was closed for several hours from Kraft Road to Rose Avenue for the investigation.
